Ingredients:
1 cup brown lentils
1 cup rice
1 large onion, chopped
1 garlic clove minced
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon 7 spices
1/2 teaspoon cumin
Instructions:
Rinse the lentils and rice thoroughly and set aside.
In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
Add the chopped onion & garlic - sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until the onion is soft and lightly browned.
Add the lentils, rice, water, salt, black pepper, cumin, and cinnamon to the pot.
Stir well to combine all ingredients.
Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid.
Let the mudardara simmer for 40-45 minutes or until the lentils and rice are fully cooked and tender.
Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 10 minutes.
Fluff the mudardara with a fork and serve hot.
